I don't know why I try every year to plant flowers in these boxes since I'm not here all of the time. My petunias have bitten the dust. I put some tacky artificial flowers in them last year after last year's planting did the same. Think I'll go with some flags on little sticks this time and stick 'em in the dirt. Pic of weather in 2025 on this date. Ridiculous heat index. So nice that it's only 75 degrees in Frisco right now, but that will change soon I'm sure.
@BentMtn portulaca. It loves hot, dry weather. And it reseeds itself too. This strawberry pot couldn't grow anything until portulaca was planted in it about 5 years ago. Plant it once and you're done. Lots of colorful blooms pop out after it rains.
@Greg - Very nice and thanks! If memory serves, I think you mentioned that to me last year on the old site when I was whining about my flowers. I'll check out the Frisco nursery and see if they carry them. Need to say howdy to my pirate glass lady anyway and find out when her article will be published in the IFP!!! Hope it's not too late to plant them. Direct sun where the boxes are located.
@BentMtn it's not too late. Buy seed if that's all they have left, it'll work too, just takes longer.
Bent, methinks you need an actual container in the basket. Any water that it gets is going to run through or evaporate quickly.
@Stumpy - You're right, Stumpy. The water pretty much flows through the cocoanut liner! I'll measure the boxes and check on Amazon and order some containers. Thanks!
@Stumpy aye, just now I zoomed in on the planter itself. @BentMtn I retract my previous recommendation. My new recommendation would be either an air plant or a plastic plant. 😄
@Greg coconut fiber, a landscape fabric liner and filled with 1/2 sand and 1/2 potting mix. Same as what's in the strawberry pot.

@Greg that's interesting, never thought of doing 1/2 soil and 1/2 sand. Sure have plenty of sand!
