Saw this animal with a fresh caught squirrel in Nags Head today. Didn't look like my usual foxes I see in Maryland so was thinking it might by a coyote?
That's definitely a coyote.
@thephotoguy I’m going with Yote on this one. If it’s a fox, it’s setting new size records, and it’s a little long on the legs.
Lots of coyotes on my the banks My kids saw a bunch of them running out of Fish Head’s parking lot one night last October.

They kill everything. You won't find raccoons possums cats or smaller dogs if they are about.
There are plenty up here in the Blue Ridge Mtns. Always hear the pups in the Spring. Was pulling my son's leg one night at dinner at the previous home with a lot of land and woods telling him that I saw a dog in the backyard and that it looked hurt. Told him that I went outside to help him (something I would do anyway if it was a dog) and that the "dog" licked my hand and I saw foam on his mouth and I turned around and ran back into the house. Told him I figured out it was a coyote. He's gullible like me and believed me and jumped up off his chair and read me the riot act...MOM!!!!!!
I've always wanted to go over to the refuge to look for red wolves.
We went to the the refuge twice last week. Saw a total of 5 bears and one red wolf. Go at dawn or dusk. We went at dusk both times. So cool! The bears were close to our car and hung around for a while. The wolf was out in a field.
Be sure to take binoculars if you have them.
Still going through pictures from the trip but it turned out that there were 5 coyote pups and a mom and dad that had a den in the backyard of the place that we stayed. I learned that they absolutely HATE when the Nags Head fire station responds to calls. They would go crazy howling and yelping every time they heard them respond to a call.
