Poor people. Before I drove to the beach this afternoon, these people had been stuck for over two hours. Don't know if it's a rental, but it's an inboard/outboard boat. Basically a lake boat IMO. Five people aboard and winds at 25. They were cruising in the wrong area and did not go through the marked off goal posts where it's deeper. Gonna have some serious problems with the prop.
@BentMtn I hope they dropped the anchor before they walked away.
@BentMtn are you saying these were the same people that got stuck at the point and were partying it up? Holding everybody up?
@4Wheeler - Maybe, 4Wheeler! I guess the ladies yesterday that had on their long flowy pretty dresses dancing around the stuck SUV stopped laughing. 😂
@Greg - I couldn't tell, Greg. They stayed in the boat for awhile and then all piled out into one foot of water. I'm guessing Sea Tow had to come out and pull them into deeper water.

I don't know their situation, but random sticks in the ground usually require some local knowledge. If they are not locals or homeowners in Brigand's it's kind of a damned if you do, damned if you don't scenario. I've seen sticks used to mark both safe passage and obstructions. Maybe paint some jugs red and green to be proper and tie them to both sticks. Out of Oregon Inlet Fishing Center a few years ago there were what appeared to be bleach bottles... but they were painted properly so no confusion.
@SkinnyWater - You're right and that would help people that are regular boaters to know where the channels are, but these people appeared to be non boaters and wouldn't realize what a navigation channel was or what a green or red color meant and were probably just out tooling around with no clue. The neighbor right across from the navigation channel put a huge orange wind sock on top of one of the poles a couple of years ago probably mainly for all of the neighbors. And, he put a long string of very bright patio lights across his decking so that everyone that boats in at night aims for his house which takes you through the navigation poles. So, yeah, just local BB knowledge as you said. A lot of people go though here that have new boats or rented boats they want to try out and have no idea about rules and navigation. So easy to spot them. Also, it's crazy to see boaters out here on the water at night with no lights. See it all of the time. Saw one this week actually. So dangerous.
@BentMtn Hopefully they learned an important lesson... like if you're going to strand yourself on some epic fishing grounds, have rods on board to pass the time with!
@BentMtn Sea Tow charges $300 per hour. The meter starts when the captain leaves his dock and stops when he returns to his dock. The bill for ungrounding and towing was probably over $1000. Add in marina charges for a new prop, new impeller and maybe skeg repair... eeesh.
@Greg -Wow! I heard it was high, but good golly, that's crazy! After coming back from the beach, I checked with the renter neighbors that had been watching the boat scene too and they said they were stuck maybe another hour after I left, but the neighbors had taken off themselves and didn't know how it ended. We would have gone to help in our boat, but waaaay too shallow and didn't want to mess up our boat trying to get them off of the sandbar. Just not equipped with the items needed to pull them off of it. And, physically they were in no danger at all. Plus, the winds were very high. Hope they didn't have to pay a lot of money.
