Happy Fathers Day to all the dads, stepdads and those that help fill the role when needed with love and guidance. May our day be great, our New Balance shoes have no grass stains and the grill tongs get clicked an extra 2 times today. 🍺🍺
Happy Fathers Day to you as well! Hope it's a great day.
Happy Father's Day y'all!
Happy Father's Day to the Dads on this board! And a toast to those Dads no longer with us.
@BentMtn My dad has been gone 18 years now. I miss him every day.
@LollyGirl - I'm still in Row-noke VA and my two sisters and I visited Dad's grave in Fincastle VA yesterday and did a toast to him and shared funny stories of him sitting by his tombstone. It wasn't sad and we really enjoyed it. Sure do miss him, too. It's the least that we could have done given all he did for us.
@BentMtn My parents and sister and other family members are laid to rest in Fincastle -old church cemetary toward Caldwell mtn going into Craig co. Pray all the daddys had a great day!
@Obk9x2 - There are some gorgeous old churches out that way. Such pretty country, Obk9x2! You are lucky to live there. Grandparents (paternal side), parents and brother are at Godwin Cemetery-Fincastle UMC along with a slew of other family dating back to the 1850's. Grandma was originally a Firebaugh from that area.
@BentMtn I have lived in Botetourt co 95 % of my life even after i got married so very familiar with everything you spoke of even to possibly knowing which Firebaugh family. Lineage on fathers side (grandfather) Lee goes way back to Revolutionary War and Mayberry my paternal grandmother (one of my cousins was a groomer for the Kennedys) On my mothers side her mother was a Davis (distant relative of Jefferson Davis) and she married a Reed and they lived and raised 8 kids in Floyd and my uncle still has a cattle farm out on Moore rd so i have been up and down your mtn many many times. My late husband took many many pics up there and until recently and since a kid get the best homegrown crops from those sheds. I have so enjoyed your pics and stories from obx connect to when i found this site and Craic did an amazing job. I apologize for being long winded -new to this . 🙏 and safety for you wherever you are
@Obk9x2 - You are not long winded and I loved your story full of cool historical facts. I think this is what I like best about these forums. Botetourt County is gorgeous and I know that you love it. Cool that you and yours have driven by my home many a time. About one minute past the Vet clinic on the left on top of a ridge and a bit hard to see from the road. Right where the S curves begin. And I do love the produce stands! Thank you for your kind words about my pics that I absolutely inundate this site with over and over. Very sweet of you!
@BentMtn Alas no more sheds on mtn and miss that. From one of your pics of mtn i had general idea where you were but haha i pictured you on the right side going up. My only sis and i were out yard sales and estate sales and she hadnt been up Floyd in awhile and she likes that plant shop cross from courthouse-alas didnt have herb plant she wanted. My husband enjoyed eating at DJ's when they opened so i treated her to a meal there and she loved it and who doesnt when they go up there and grab Slaughters slaw and i have to grab extra for family. My sis been coming to obx 40 plus yrs with family and few yrs ago not as much as family members passed but she and i did come down last Oct to NH with nephew and family in house they rented. I always ride down and catch ferry and visit Ocracoke -my hubby and since gone two dalmatians loved that ride. I always had to stop food lion in Avon and get them wing dings for them n them taters for hubby. So i guess i have been general area where you have a place there. My hubby and dals started comin down there 2006 -Abby dal till 2015 and J 2023 (almost 18 yrs old) and fall of that yr last trip for hubby He passed last Feb so i have great memories wit
@Obk9x2 - You and your sister sound so precious. Some cool stuff in Floyd and I love Slaughter's nursery. Sweet memories you have of the OBX and I am so sorry for the loss of your husband. I'm thinking of you. Take care, Obk9x2!
@BentMtn Thanks sweet lady and thanks for taking time to get acquainted. Be safe 🙏 always
