Avon Getting a New Brewery

https://islandfreepress.org/hatteras-island-features/hatteras-islands-first-ever-brewery-on-tap-as-tugs-plans-avon-opening/ That spot in North Avon soundside will be perfect for their venture. I have always thought that restaurant area/spot could step it up a notch in the entertainment front after having personally patronized at least two (maybe three) restaurants there in the last two decades. There is already decking out back facing the sound. I hope those views and the decking will be incorporated into the overall plan--take advantage of that sound view! To me, previous eateries there treated the deck and view as an afterthought. The live music they are planning will be fun and should draw a crowd. I'll certainly visit and I wish them luck with their new brewery.

@BentMtn Wish them the best. that's a strange location. It's the first thing you come to when you come out of Pea Island wildlife area you would think it would be very popular but I found that that is the sign for people to drive faster and not stop because " we are almost there" as they head south and it is a sign for " We are leaving everything behind" if you are headed north.

@Alexy I get what you mean, but there are some perfect public walkways from the soon to be brewery to Avon Beach right across the street on Nova Drive (I always thought that flip of the word was cool). I'm thinking people can walk off the beach and visit for an adult bev and music to top off the day. My family's first foray into owning a piece of heaven down there (Jan 2003) was at the Pamlico Point Condos right next door to where the brewery will be. There have been so many merchants there; think there was even at one time a vet or grooming place within the mini "strip mall.". But, the brewery should bring in people with music and views and the place is situated at the end of the strip and very noticeable. I can see people coming from Frisco and Buxton; locals and visitors. Hope hope hope! It won't be another Fishheads, but Avon is the bomb beach IMO and needs something kinda cool......

Trip Lineberry who lived over on Captains Ct was very serious about 12 years ago about turning the old Avon theatre into a brewery/restaurant/event center but it never panned out. I always thought that was a good location for it but goofy things like the water lines having to be greatly enlarged and zoning were big setbacks.

That would have been a perfect place for something like that. Yeah, I heard about the water probs holding back anyone's plan to make something of the cinema. I haven't glanced up there in a while. Just wondering if anything is in the works or still stuck. Sure did love going to movies there when the kids were middle and high school age on rainy days....

@BentMtn That was always a " go to" for the kids or even dinner time and the kids would get a movie and Chinese food and we got a adult meal. The water issue surprised me but the cinema needed only a small line in for toilets and utility sink(s) while a brewery and restaurant would of required a much bigger line and they would have to cut the concrete floors to get it and the added lines and drains for the restaurant and brewery. It was explained that over 1/2 of the floor would have to be sawed up to get the plumbing done.

Oh, to piggy back off of this thread in pretty much the same vein, when I was having some one dollar suds at the Avon Pier watching that gale force event through the filmy windows, I had a nice convo with the new employee at the pier. He and his wife recently moved to Avon and she's the new Doc in town at the Avon clinic. He is retired pulling some part time hours on the pier. Very nice guy. He said the new pier owner is working on plans to expand the "pier store/entrance" area and add onto both sides with a bar, seating and that type thing and hopes for a 2027 opening. Can't remember what he said about the food part even though there is a food truck in the parking lot for the past few years. These are the same owners, he said, that are putting in the 180 site campground overlooking Ramp 49 that is to be completed soon. Just going by what he said and we'll see. Avon could use something like that at the pier. I've always thought it was a waste not to capitalize on those views and make it a fun place for locals and visitors. I'm thinking Fishheads-like....could be if what he says is true.

Snapped this pic of the new "Tugs" Taphouse & Brewery sign yesterday in Avon on the way in on HWY 12. Cute sign and it caught my eye. I checked their website and it says 'coming soon.'. IG has all kinds of shout outs for it.
