Happy 100th, Andy!

Today would be the 100th birthday of Outer Banks icon Andy Griffith. He loved the Outer banks - especially Roanoke Island and was quietly generous beyond measure to his beloved island and its people.

@LollyGirl - I hope one of the online local newspapers writes an article about it. They should. Thank you for this info and I'll share your info with friends and fam who loved him.

@LollyGirl He had a bad side too I am told.

Don’t we all

I know he guarded his privacy jealously, but I’ve read many reports of his generosity and kindness. Actually I credit him with saving my father’s life. Andy’s generosity was instrumental in getting a small emergency medical clinic established in NH in the early 90’s (before the hospital). They had a medical helicopter that flew my dad to Chesapeake Hospital when he had an extreme medical emergency. Saved his life.

Thanks, Bent

@LollyGirl - Luv ya, Nags Head girl! I'm gonna have to watch some YT videos with Ange and Barn' today. Good ol' 14A!

Love that little tune!

The only "bad side" I've ever heard of was that Andy did not like being approached while at a restaurant eating (and neither do I). Other than that he was always friendly. I think the biggest thing is that he just wanted to be a regular guy.

Just found out on another board that today would also be the 100th birthday of Norma Jean Mortenson. AKA Marilyn Monroe.

Shoutout to Clint Eastwood. He turned 96 yesterday.

@Tim-OBX Perhaps you should start another thread, “The bad side of Andy Griffith”. It appears that this one is about a birthday celebration. Reminds me of the thread about Carol Ann of the Jolly Roger.
