So happy Buxton Seafood have new owners that are friendly and know their stuff. They have been so busy and good for them. With all of this talk from Greg and Stumpy on smoked fish dip, I stopped by there yesterday to buy some. The owner has his own boat that goes out of Wanchese and the seafood is freshly caught and sold. He made this dip personally and it was fantastic. So enjoyed it along with crackers I picked up there and some veggies here for dipping. Added in some fresh snow peas that my friend left me that she grew to eat as a side. They are great raw. Easy easy dinner.

@Greg - It was good, Greg. Quite often, I just do veggie meals in the summer with all the good stuff growing. My fave produce place on the MTN was razed last year (almost 200 yr old farm)....old Poage's Mill about two miles from me to build a housing development. Still ongoing earth moving. Used to buy hay from them too. Shame......
@BentMtn A downright shame bout that farm-used to get the best there as long as i remember. Great nephews in-laws live out that road so they told me way back what was comin- so sad. 🙁

@BentMtn The original owner of Buxton seafood was Nick. He was a great guy and ran the shop well. We got to meet years ago because their phone number and our house phone were the same (with one number switched) we would get calls or messages all the time for people asking for 3 pounds of XLshrimp steamed ASAP and they were on their way to get it. You would walk in and he had a machinegun hanging on the wall and 3 chihuahuas that slept by the register. After he passed away from cancer his wife and sons tried but it was just too much for them and they moved back to VA. I am glad the new owners are doing good. I did see that they have Oysters Rockefeller premade this year and my wife and her sister said they were " as good as hers".
@Alexy - Such a shame that dynamic happens when the original owner passes away. I've seen it happen so many times in too many venues. Pretty much a gold mine there that obviously the rest of the family was tired of handling. I gave them two tries after moving to Frisco; I was the only person in the shop, given the up and down size up look by a female employee and was ignored both times. So, I went back to Risky Business or Sunrise for fresh seafood and very customer focused owners. Yep, glad they are doing well now. This guy is a transplant from Topsail and so friendly. I'm glad you guys have found the Oysters Rockefeller! It's cool that you knew the owner.
