About 9 years ago I was in Bob's Bait & Tackle. When I got to checkout their was a young guy in front me talking to the clerk. The clerk seemed agitated and said loudly pointing behind his shoulder - you mean in that sound. The customer said yes pulled out his phone and showed him a picture and said a couple days ago, then left. I asked the clerk what that was about and he said that the guy claimed he caught a 10 foot Tiger up in Corolla. Didn't seem believable but the guy had a photo of a Tiger on his phone. A couple years later I was looking at a shark tracker website and saw a shark showing in the Currituck Sound. Clicked on it and it showed a 9 foot Tiger that last pinged May of 2017. There's a simple test... dip your finger in the water and taste it. If it's salty, there's sharks in there. If it's not salty, there's still bull sharks in there.

I once harpooned an Orca in the Currituck sound on a Paddle Board....Bastard stole my Paddle board, I had no choice. The Currituck was angry that day my friends....
Yes there are sharks in the sound. We were cleaning fish one afternoon on a canal in Brigands bay in 2001 and had been tossing the scraps and heads into the canal and took a bluefish head and ran a 4/0 circle hook through it and tossed it out on a leader and it went tight in about 10-15 mins. We used a big board to use a a spool and pulled in a 4ft bull shark to the side of the bulkhead. We just cut the line and he went about his way. If you really want to see the number of sharks I would suggest riding out to Hatteras Inlet as the tide comes in and watch both sides. the number of sharks that sit there and wait for the tide to bring them a meal is staggering. The water will be black with them if the light is right and water clear.
@Squid Pro Quo I know guys that worked the Knotts Island Ferry who claimed to have seen bulls over the years.
@Alexy I have seen that several times from the air. If people flew over the beaches they would never get in the water again. I do miss Dwight Burrus and his flight seeing service.

My daughter and I thought that we saw a shark (fin) on the Sound at Brigand's Bay last week. We were sitting up high on the deck and saw it below. Saw a fin zipping through the water very very fast for about 20 feet or so. First I have seen that type of activity on the sound. She said she saw a dorsal fin cutting through. I was seated looking though the posts and she was standing with a better view. It was sooooo fast like it was chasing something. I kidded her like she knew what a dorsal fin was...(well, like I would really know too); and she answered me stating "Shark Week." "Absolutely." Back story: For years, she has always called me at the beach after watching "Shark Week" and begged for everyone to stay out of the water. Especially when a couple of the Avon shark attack episodes were aired......
