So I follow this online auction house, based out of Nags Head. Forever, great deals for high value items. They've gotten really recognized over the past few years. That's a crazy amount of gold and silver.
So it was a banger of an auction. I bought the 230th commemorative Marine Corp silver dollar uncirculated. I've got a good buddy - retired Master Guns - a nice Xmas gift for him. I've bought from this auction house in the past. Used to be able to get some real steals but since they've been "found" you've got to do your homework.
I don't get the auction site. Coins are being held in a local bank vault so no pictures are available?? What coins are they?? Not much info. What is a soft close? I know what it is in a real estate sale (being a Realtor) but what does it mean in an auction?
The auctioneers cataloged all the coins individually. Detailed photos and descriptions were published one week before the auction. For this particular auction all bidders had to be preapproved - no credit cards were accepted. The auction began at 6:30pm. They had 250 items. I think they do 5 at a time 3 min countdown. Under a minute left any more bids resets the counter back to 1 min. It keeps going until someone wins. I think the entire auction went about 1 1/2 hours. You pay a 15% buyers premium. One guy bought all the gold and I don't think he ever overbid.
