Took a left today at Billy D Williams Airstrip and found a moat. High high winds and mad ocean; but beautiful. Luckily, got in a couple of miles walking.
@BentMtn Billy D. Williams? Wasn’t he a famous Admiral back in the thirties?
@Squid Pro Quo
@Squid Pro Quo -- Joke! Friends of mine call it that. I refer to it that way from time to time. Just a Hatt-riss thang. Yeah...I know its Billy Mitchell.
@J4yDubs - hahahhahahahha!
@BentMtn watch that first step. It's a doozy!

To add to the "Billy D" comment, my husband and pals had a fishing club from SW VA, Team Mully, that came down here every November to surf fish since 1980. Even had a big write up in The Roanoke Times newspaper on a "drum beat" trip. One of the charter members, Tom, was hilarious and friends with all of us since junior high. He was so loud and funny and ALWAYS had a spin on everything Hatteras. He named the airport that and called Jobob's in Rodanthe "Jaba's" and on and on. He passed away seven years ago so it's kinda a shout out to his memory when I use his vernacular. His wife passed away four years ago. She was the one pictured with me on the ferry when I was preggo with my daughter. Always vacationed with them back in the olden days and stayed either in South Nags Head or Hatteras Island. My son and pals have continued the fishing club named Team Mully 2 and come to fish annually with all new Team Mully merch and of course stay in Brigand's Bay and leave top shelf bourbon behind..... Speaking of Jobob's, when we were stuck in traffic forever in the tri villages on the last trip out, got to talking about what will become of that old place and I googled it and found the attached
@BentMtn That building has a bad habit of filling half way up to the ceiling with water from time to time. Elevation sorely needed.
@Squid Pro Quo - Thanks for that info, Squid. I never knew that and it's in such a good area. It's too bad that no one is looking into that problem. I'm sure you and others know much more than I. Rodanthe has a lot to offer and I hate seeing that as well as the go kart park or whatever it is. Whole other can of worms with that problem. I have heard some of the story on that eyesore and I understand there has been a lot of back and forth on that "amusement park" for years and obviously no solution.
