Not sure I am happy with the “transformation” being done to the old Red Drum station/repair shop and tackle. I think the new owners forgot it floods badly but they are sinking all kinds of money into it. Also not sure that it’s good there are now almost no auto repair shops in the island.
This must be on Hatteras somewhere. Never been there. tim

@Tim-OBX yep right in Buxton. Used to be the epicenter of drum fishing especially when the drum hit in the fall. I would drive down in the dead of night and they operated on an honor system after hours you could get ice and bait and pay them when they got in in the AM. I would drive down get what I needed fished till the morning tide came in then go settle up and go sleep. The repair shop was good for mechanical fixes and tire repairs.

@Alexy Noticed that too, Alexy. That place had been my go-to stop for "sundries" heading up north from Frisco for fishing in Avon; or anything else I needed quickly on my drive up that way. On the right side of the road travelling north and didn't want to take a left getting back into traffic right there if I stopped at the tackle and bait shop across the road! I have no idea what they are re-building there. It's a huge area though and the parking was perfect for backing up a Tundra (for me!).

@Alexy Rob Alderman (The General) is living down in Cudjoe Key near Key West, still chasing fins in his kayak. He reports almost daily about his adventures on Facebook. I became friends with Jeff Golding over the years and he was a great guy. RIP Wheatland Willie! Those were the days.
@Alexy I wonder what happened to Willard? I’m friends with John Mortenson (JAM) and he went over to the mainland, across the sound. They built some great heavers back in the day! I still have that one piece broomstick rod that Bob built in 1984, what a classic. It could toss 8 n bait like a champ.
@Squid Pro Quo Last I heard JAM is doing well. I knew Rob moved off when the kid was out of school. Both of them were solid bastions of reason during the days of beach closures and Reg/Neg...btw SELC still is paid to this day to " monitor" the consent decree.
@BentMtn I want to say the new owners were interviewed by OBX voice and they were turning it into mixed use commercial with no plans to keep the shop ( it has already been closed off) the grocery store and only going for retail
Thanks, Alexy. It's been dormant for so long, I haven't even checked on any progress. Hope the retailers are decent and not some type of tattoo place or tacky t -shirt shack.
