Looks like a fun event.
I was into that sort of stuff before I got my pilots license. I found a mentor that taught me the "right way" to build a model airplane from those kits you buy and then glue together. Mine crashed but it was so well built I fixed the wing and I was back in business in a day or two. I enjoyed building them more than flying them.
