Wright Kite Festival this weekend at the Wright Brothers Memorial

Hey y’all, Just a heads up — the Wright Kite Festival is this Friday and Saturday (July 17-18) from 10 to 4 each day at the Wright Brothers National Memorial in Kill Devil Hills. This is the 48th year they’ve been doing it, so it’s been around a while. They fly some really big kites out there — some of them are 30 to 100 feet. It’s right on the historic grounds where the Wright Brothers flew, so it’s a pretty cool spot for it. The kite stuff is free, you just pay the normal park entrance fee ($10 for ages 16 and up, kids under 16 are free). All ages are welcome. They usually have free lessons on flying the stunt kites and a kite-making station for the kids. Park right there at the Memorial. It’s a pretty relaxed day, good for photos and just hanging out watching the big kites. You can bring your own kite if you want, or grab one there. And sorry you have to leave the beer in the car.
