Summer rentals down?

I've got a brother who owns in Corolla and he is significantly down in rentals so far for this year. He has consistently been booked since he bought 14 years ago. Not always full but at least 10 weeks. He's less then half as of now. I've also got a friend who rents in SS each summer. He says inventory is so high that he's going to wait until June to book a July week. I'm curious as to the cause - high gas prices?

I've got a friend in bethany beach Delaware. He also has a lot of weeks open so far. So it might not be an outer bank's thing.

I’ve noticed a lot of my friends are traveling abroad this year. Several in Italy and France, three making the Alaska trek, and many others.

I'm on the west side of the road and a neighbor friend, on the west side of me says he's pretty much rented out.

@Jeep4x4 My requests are way down and we have a 4.94 "favored destination" rating. Home sale prices are down in Carova as well. Looks like I'll be keeping my Ferry Crew job for a while. (; Not a big surprise at all though.

@Beach Farmer, I think it's because you banned Robluck and Ali2.0! Hahaha!

We have rented our home for 24 years. in that time the rentals generally stay consistent in peak season. We have not had an issue with the summer but we are in Hatteras and with the over wash issues on rt 12 , beach access issues and NCDMF shutting down things like flounder and now trout the fall fishermen that we would have have in Sept -Oct cut back but they still rent should the island be open and the weather is favorable they just wait to the last minute to do it. I will be honest in that we raised our prices and we do not make near the money to cover things as in years past but We have never had the home to "make money" it has always been simply recycled back into the home.

@Jeep4x4 Not gas prices. The bookings have been slow getting started and that was before gas prices changed.

I spoke with my buddy. He said he checked out the house online earlier today and they had dropped the rate by almost 15%. He thought that was fair enough. He pulled the trigger.

Update, BIL got an additional week rented. Now has half the summer left.
